How to Turn Your Dreams into Reality

renee_danceAs I stood in front of the impressive glass office building in Ahmedabad, India, I knew that this was the perfect spot for my growing company to be a huge success. My biggest international competitor had an office close by.

The feeling of the building was so modern that it would surely give my customers a feeling of confidence in my company due to the impressive office space. There was one prime office space left in the tower, and I stood looking at it, wanting it.

So, as I departed on my flight back to Germany, I told my right-hand person in India, Ambar, to go ahead and rent the office. More specifically, I told him that “I could see my name on the office building already.”

After all, I wanted it so badly that I had begun to visualize the complete scene in my mind: a modern office in India, with a happy team of dedicated professionals working together to bring creative and quality solutions to our customers.  And my name, Renée, on the office building.

Unfortunately, I was not visualizing the name of my company, Progenitor, on the office building, and that is where I went wrong. Ambar did as I asked, and called about the office space to learn that it was already rented.  So we found another building in which we successfully grew our modern infrastructure, happy teams, and satisfied customers. A few months later, on one of my trips to India, while passing my “original choice” of office, I noticed just how powerful my visualization was: my name WAS on the office; it was rented to Renée’s Dance and Fitness.

“How funny,” I thought. “How many people in India named Renée are there? And how many of us wanted the same office building?” Then I remember what I had told Ambar, that I saw my name on the office.

That is where I was not specific enough and should have been more specific: that I visualized the name of my company on the office space. Hmmm… This is not such an unusual story in my life, because ever since I can remember, I have had an amazing power to visualize what I want, and make it happen. (OK, this time I did it incorrectly, but I still had a nice office with great employees, as you can see in this photo.)

We all have the power within us to create the things we want in life through our powerful mindsets, our dedication to bring things into being, and through our hard work and persistence.

Maybe you are one of those people who are already making that happen.  If not, here are some tips on how you can turn your dreams into reality.

Get completely, crystal clear on what you want to have.

How much money do you want to make in your job or business? What color house, in which neighborhood, on what street, with how many rooms do you want to buy?  How many customers would you like to sign business with in the next 30 days?

Get completely clear to that level of detail on what it is that you want to happen.  And here is where most people go wrong. They focus on what they don’t want to happen, out of fear. They are afraid that they will lose their money or that they won’t be successful. That is what they focus on instead of what they want the outcome to be.

And guess what? What they focus on becomes the reality, which in this case is what they don’t want. Our minds are that powerful. So focus on what you do want, on the positive outcome rather than the negative outcome. Because you have the power to manifest what you are focusing on in a big way.

Write down what you want to have.  After getting completely clear on what you want in your mind, write it down on a piece of paper. Writing brings the thought and desire from our mind out into the physical world, and that is the first step to making it a reality. Write it with a specific target date, and in the past or present tense as if you have already made it happen.

So you want to make €10,000 in your company by signing 3 new contracts in October? Then write: On October 25, I have signed 3 new contracts worth €10,000 with my ideal customer. Make a 30-, 60-, 90-day plan about all of the things you want to have in those time periods.

Make a 6-month and 1-year plan too. Write everything with a specific date by which you have made it happen. Focus daily on what you want to create. Spend time each day focusing on what you want, and how you will make it happen.

See yourself having accomplished it already. Feel what you feel like (happy, powerful, successful) having accomplished what you are wanting, and give gratitude for anyone who has helped you accomplish this. Focus and visualize it daily.

For extra credit, focus multiple times a day on the feeling and vision of you having accomplished what you want. For extra, extra credit say your accomplishment out loud 3 times per day. Be open to making it happen, and understanding the steps that you have control over to make it a reality.

You have the power to make your dreams a reality. Be creative with the things that you can do to make it happen. In the case of wanting to make €10,000 in October: launch a new program for more revenue; follow up with customers who expressed an interest in your service in the past; offer a bonus for people who register for your programs in October; call your business mentor for ideas on how to raise your prices.

Being creative with what you have control over creates a system and pathway for you to get what you want. Be open to receiving it. Create an environment in your life to receive what you are wanting.

Give gratitude every day, for having what you want, and look around you for ways that you are receiving it every day. Really, you can have what you want. By focusing on what you want, rather than what you don’t want, you create the energy to make your biggest dreams a reality.
